Classical Chorus (or ‘CC’ as fondly referred to), delivers fun and exciting rehearsals learning favourite choral harmonies in an encouraging and friendly atmosphere.

CC is a non-auditioned choir with twice monthly sessions based in St. Albans Hertfordshire, exploring singing technique, performance skills, ear training and score reading in a light-hearted and encouraging atmosphere. For both readers and non-readers, music is mainly taught by rote with learning tracks to support singing at home.

Over 150 singers enjoy learning a huge variety of classical and musical theatre repertoire, from traditional choruses such as Jerusalem, Gloria, and Adiemus, through to showstopper favourites from The Greatest Showman, Cats and The Sound of Music. There is also opportunity for smaller ensemble and solo work. Professional musicians often accompanying rehearsals and performances.

Performance and social opportunities include charity concerts, informal outdoor events, European tours and theatre trips. CC have sung in many prestigious locations including Verona Cathedral, Trafalgar Square, St Albans Abbey Cathedral, Harrow School Speech Room and Saint Mark's Basilica, Venice. They have also proudly hosted a concert at Shendish Manor with world renowned operatic tenor, Alexander James Edwards, where they performed Nessun Dorma and many other choral classics. In 2022 they look forward to touring to Spain, where they will give a full concert in the ‘Barcelona Auditorium’ and at the renowned Barcelona Cathedral.

Classical Chorus have raised thousands for many charities including Herts Musical Memories, Macmillan,

The British Legion Poppy Appeal and Red Balloon children’s charity.

Despite Covid-19, CC continued their love of singing together by rehearsing virtually. As plans for their winter tour to Belgium singing at the Menin Gate Last Post ceremony were postponed, they decided to record their performance instead....

Socially distanced and wearing masks, they recorded in small groups to produce the harmonies for this beautiful arrangement of ‘In Flanders Fields.’ The tracks from each group of voices were then edited to bring the whole choir sound together.

Singers also chose photos of themselves, family members and local places by way of tribute to the 2020 virtual field of remembrance.

Thank you for listening and thank you for donations to the Royal British Legion,

‘Lest we forget.’
